caroline de boissieu
impermanence of all things
online group EXHIBITION
February.24 - JUNE.26.2022
Caroline de Boissieu is a French artist whose work explores transparency. On translucent paper, her favorite medium, she works with inks that she dilutes and flows with water. The result is a composition with fluid movements and subtle nuances. The artist also uses glass to laminate her works. In the light, her translucent creations are enhanced by play of shadows and colors.
Semi-abstract, Caroline de Boissieu's paintings in mixed hues are reminiscent of aquatic, organic or aerial landscapes. Inspired by water in particular, she infuses this polysemic natural element with a balance between power and fragility. Her paintings sometimes represent the agitation of sea waves and the crashing waves, sometimes the calm depths of the seas and the gentle reflections of the sun gliding over the ocean.
“The water and inks that I use flow over it and give life
to an infinite number of shades and subtleties.
Light and reflections play with the translucent
depth of a fluid, moving material…”
- Caroline de Boissieu
Caroline de Boissieu's work refers to the serene force of nature, as well as its immutability facing the transience of human life as evoked by Taoist philosophy. A pictorial, philosophical, poetic, and today ecological subject, nature anchors the human condition to its interdependence.
